Role: Senior Design Engineer About Doris Dev: Doris Dev is a consumer product development company. We help companies make new products & bring them to market, leading concepting, design, engineering, supply chain setup & ongoing operational oversight. We have teams in New York City and Hong Kong, and work with startups and established companies across many consumer categories, from connected hardware & electronics, to durable housewares and in-home goods, to soft-goods and packaging, and everything in between. The Candidate: You have experience bringing new products to market, handling all or some of the touchpoints from concept through manufacturing. You've either built or supported bringing new products to the world, handling design, testing, prototyping, engineering, RFQ, and supplier engagement. You have experience working with and in manufacturing environments. You're willing to learn, adapt and take initiative but not afraid of taking up challenges. You're a detail-oriented individual who admires good design with respect for the role that it plays in quality products and brands. The Job: As Design Engineer, you will: Act as a dedicated Design Engineer - helping to lead the development work from product definition through manufacturing. Work closely with NYC and Asia teams to communicate and determine direction & solve development problems as they arise. Communicate progress to partners on the ground in the US and project requirements for development, manufacturing & operational needs to broader internal and external teams. Collaborate with Doris Dev Industrial Design & NY/Asia engineering teams to ensure the engineering designs meet client requirements and design intent. The Responsibilities: Lead design engineering of a product from inception to manufacturing Manage documentation of product assets (3D, 2D, Samples) Provide Engineering Support and Analysis to Industrial Design Stakeholders. Build inhouse prototypes or scope external partners to prototype designs Test samples and prototypes to validate design Provide technical feedback and assets to support sourcing & supply chain teams, working with PM's to review quotations from vetted suppliers. Handle multiple projects and work independently while establishing cross-functional partners to ensure production meets company objectives The Qualifications: 4+ years of experience in product development and mechanical engineering Must have a portfolio with past work(3D, prototypes, etc..) Experience in product categories such as furniture, consumer product, healthcare, houseware goods, appliances, and packaging. Highly proficient and deeply familiar with CAD tools (Solidworks or Onshape preferred) and prior experience with a variety of 3D printers Ability to hand prototype with extensive hand tool experience. Experience with wide range of materials (plastics, metals, rubbers) and knowledge informing material selection process Proactive problem solving, including root cause analysis and DOE creation. Interested in consumer product design and manufacturing Experience working in small teams of engineers/designers/project managers Ability to travel to Asia including Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, South Korea, and Taiwan. Ability to work in English Strong Communication and Presentation skills - especially convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Ability to convey passion for passion and innovation in presentations. Must have developed a product through mass production. Working Hours Because our work involves coordination with the Asia Team, there are meetings that are scheduled outside of traditional 9-5 working hours.
