The Cargo Coordinator serves as the central point of contact for supply chain operations and communications at Union Glacier. Key responsibilities include coordinating cargo logistics between Punta Arenas and Union Glacier, overseeing inventory administration, and facilitating communications with various stakeholders. This role requires strong planning, organizational, and customer service skills, as well as the ability to initiate activities independently. Reporting directly to the Field Operations Manager, the Cargo Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning of logistical operations and guest services in the Antarctic environment. Antarctic Logistics & Expeditions (ALE) is the most experienced deep-field operator in Antarctica, providing a wide range of guided experiences, air support, logistical back-up and safety cover for governmental research programs, independent expeditions, and tourists. We work in a worldwide market of different cultures and languages, and we fully embrace this diversity. We also have a strong environmental ethic. ALE is a Utah company with a year-round office in Salt Lake City, a seasonal operations support office in Punta Arenas, Chile, and several seasonal field camps in Antarctica. Seasonal Information: The Cargo Coordinator generally works from early November to late January. Duties and Responsibilities: Serve as the primary point of contact for supply chain operations and communications at Union Glacier.Coordinate cargo logistics between Punta Arenas and Union Glacier, ensuring timely delivery and receipt of goods.Manage inventory administration, including overseeing inventory processes and compiling off-season purchase requests.Operate and manage the ordering system for supplies from Punta Arenas, tracking the status of orders and manifesting outbound cargo.Facilitate communication between Union Glacier, Punta Arenas, aircraft, field parties, and expeditions.Collaborate with department heads to ensure inventory procedures are followed correctly.Participates in a variety of hands-on general remote camp activities such as shoveling snow, melting snow, organizing stock/inventory, unloading and loading aircrafts, monitoring camp for safety issues during weather events, attending staff meetings, reporting hazards, completing reports and other end of season tasks.Other duties as assigned Required Skills and Abilities: Adaptable communication skills to communicate with various Managers across Antarctica and Punta Arenas.Ability to work seven days a weekAbility to live in a tent in a cold weather environmentAbility to manage people and client relationsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailAdaptable self-started and the ability to work independently and with oversight to complete tasks Minimum Qualifications: Qualifications include experience with cargo coordination, and logistics. A valid passport for travel to Antarctica is required. Preferred qualifications include proficiency in the Spanish and Russian languages and knowledge of the DGAC regulations. All workers in Antarctica are required to be fluent in spoken and written English, physically fit and comfortable with physical labor, possess a valid passport, have the ability to live in a cold-weather environment, successfully pass a medical questionnaire reviewed by the Medical Director, and obtain a First Aid, CPR & AED certification prior to employment. Compensation and Benefits: The Cargo Coordinator makes a minimum of $210 per day and may be eligible for a higher rate depending on qualifications, certifications, and previous experience. Benefits include food and lodging, travel expenses, industry pro-deals, paid training and accommodations at our seasonal logistics hub in Punta Arenas, Chile, and medical services provided by our Medical Team located at Union Glacier Camp. The Cargo Coordinator is a seasonal contractor position. Physical Requirements: This position involves medium work that primarily involves walking and standing for long periods of time. This position may exert up to 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently. Incumbents in this role typically require standing and walking for prolonged periods, communicating with others to exchange information, repeating motions that may include wrists, hands and/or fingers, shoveling, assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, extreme temperature, and travel. COVID Vaccine Requirement: In accordance with international travel regulations, all staff that are working or may be traveling to Chile or Antarctica must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 (SARS-COV-2).
